I'm furious.....hurt....confused.....

I feel misled and very let down. By the Dentist.....not the Dentist himself but the office.. I guess.
We have been going to the same Dentist since 1994. When we first moved to Appleton we didn't even have jobs. Greg's tooth cracked and he needed a crown put on. We called so many people and no one would see us unless we paid in cash.....up front. Then we called Dr. Hornseth. He agreed to see Greg AND to have us make payments on the bill. We were elated, appreciative, and oh so thankful! We had many opportunities over the years to move to a different provider but we chose to stick with this office because of that first encounter. It meant that much to us.

We were advised four years ago to have Sealants put on Parker's teeth. They were supposed to protect the teeth so that cavities could not form. I wanted to research the sealants before making a decision so I held off on getting them put on.

After that, I read from a friend that sealants could possibly leach into the tooth and cause cancer later in life.... NO THANKS!

I declined sealants but was approached at our next cleaning that we should really consider the sealants because it was in Parker's best interest, etc... They also assured me that the sealant they used did not have Bisphenol A in it and that it would NOT cause cancer.

I really didn't want to have sealants put on. I mean, I never had sealants on my teeth and the few cavities I did get were covered with metal fillings that contain mercury.....which by the way are now considered BAD for you. They have removed mine and replaced them with the compository fillings.

But anyway..... I eventually gave in and got Parker's teeth (molars) sealed. I thought we were fine.

Until recently. Parker had an appointment scheduled for a routine cleaning. Greg took him. Greg was told that Parker's sealants were coming off and that they would have to replace them. I was a little put off by that but didn't quetion it. Until I called to get information on his appointment. I was told that the sealant could not be replaced so they had to give my son a FILLING!!!!!!!! My son who never had a cavity now had to get TWO fillings because the blasted sealants were coming off of his teeth. Oh my gosh! I was in tears!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I immediately wanted answers...... I got, "Well, a lot of research and technology has happened in four years. They don't even make sealants with the same material that they did four years ago when Parker had his done." "Parker was unlucky enough to get caught in the time frame where they were still in the beginning phases of their research." Sooooooooooo my son was a guinea pig? What the heck?

I am truly trying to type this in a calm fashion.....but my blood is boiling. Boiling!

I dig a little deeper and discover that not only was the sealant coming off of Parker's teeth but that MICROSCOPIC BACTERIA COULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED UNDERNEATH THE SEALANT CAUSING DECAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could it get any worse???? My child who many never ever have had problems with those teeth now has problems. Well, I was assured that the problem was corrected when the sealant was removed and the filling put in place. BUT what happens when four years from now the "research and technology" has advanced even further and I get even worse news about these procedures?!

I asked about Adasen and Ida who have both received sealants on their teeth. I was told that their sealants may be just fine. It all depends on their saliva and how it reacts with the sealant. Oh, and I said, "And what if there were MICROSCOPIC BACTERIA ON THEIR TEETH WHEN THE SEALANT WAS PUT ON?????" Wellllllllllllll was my response. Wellllllllll I'm freaking pissed!

As a parent I do my very best to PROTECT my children. Not hurt them. I feel so misled. So hurt.

Oh, but I was credited $80 for my portion of Parker's original sealant cost. Well, now doesn't that just make it all better? NOT!

We made it through our first week.....

at school and at work. The kids love their teachers thank goodness. I am loving my daycare schedule so far.

It was a wonderful first week!

Today the girls start their technical dance lessons with Marsden. Tomorrow they start their regular season at Fox Valley Stars. They are in the Starlette Hip Hop group this year so it will be interesting to see them do this type of dance. Ida seems more fluid with her movements than Adasen does. Adasen did really well with the pom style dance so I'm hoping she goes back to that next season. LOL I never want to discourage my girls in anything they want to try so I thought I'd let them do the Hip Hop this time around.

Parker starts band this coming week. He is playing the Baritone. It's very big and very loud. The dogs hate it. Parker also plays the electric guitar. He has been taking private lessons for just over a year now and he is really good at it. I love to hear him play the guitar. He even wrote his own song (music notes and all) and he and his teacher recorded it. I think Parker has a musical gift and I hope that he continues to explore this talent!

I think that's about it for now. We are leaving for church in a few minutes.

Happy Sunday!!!!!!!!!!!
